Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a shooting that took place late Saturday at Howe Park while authorities were dissolving a large unsanctioned party of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County law enforcement were first dispatched to the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. After that, additional information came in mentioning a possible fight taking place at Howe Park.
An overhead unit scanned the area from the air but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had congregated at Howe Park in an unauthorized manner.
When the Shots Rang Out
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems instructing the hundreds present to disperse at once. Approximately 15 minutes were given for the crowd to leave.
It was during this dispersal that an estimated 20 to 25 shots Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 were fired. Gunfire triggered a stampede. Responding personnel quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.
Four Victims Hospitalized
When the dust settled, four shooting victims were found to have been shot. Those injured — made up of one woman and three men all believed to be in their mid to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one suffered minor injuries. In a positive development, each of the four victims was stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived on scene and assisted with medical triage the injured before they were taken to the hospital.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident was determined to have unfolded near the Cottage Way corridor close to the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives recovered extra shell casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were observed in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the Home Depot. These findings showed that at least one of the shooters had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown while the scene was active. CSI investigators and detectives kept processing evidence through the early morning hours.
Arrests Made
Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic indicated that a Kia vehicle was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four people were taken into custody. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were traveling to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for formal questioning. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
